Sequential Figure and Ground
In this project, I conducted creative research, focusing on the delicate interplay between figure and ground. Using design processes, I experimented with the notions of positive and negative space to create a typographic composition with rhythm and balance. I started by figuring out my system, how I was going to arrange the characters, and where I was going to place them within each mask. I used clipping masks to overlay the letters on top of each other, ensuring that each letter fit within the other. I also wanted to think about the typefaces I used and whether I utilized upper or lowercase letters in the composition, as well as a combination of upper and lowercase letters and san and san-serif fonts.
